Kuwait Mobile ID App (Hawyti): Setup, Uses and Fixes
Forgot your civil ID at home and the clinic is asking for it? If you have Kuwait Mobile ID on your phone, that’s not a problem anymore. It’s PACI’s official app, known in Arabic as Hawyti (هويتي), and it gives you a digital civil ID that government offices and border points accept. This guide covers what the app does, how to set it up, where it’s accepted, and how to fix the problems people hit most.
What is Kuwait Mobile ID?
Kuwait Mobile ID is a free app from the Public Authority for Civil Information (PACI). It stores a verified digital version of your civil ID on your phone. PACI describes it as a certified digital civil card for proving identity, authentication and electronic signature with government bodies and the private sector.
What you can do with Kuwait Mobile ID
| Use | What it means for you |
|---|---|
| Digital civil ID | Show your ID on the phone instead of the plastic card |
| Login to Sahel | Sahel uses Mobile ID instead of a password |
| Authentication | Approve logins to government and some private services |
| Electronic signature | Sign and approve certain transactions digitally |
| Share details | Share your ID details through QR code where supported |
Where is the digital civil ID accepted?
The digital civil ID is accepted at government offices and border points in Kuwait. Many banks, hospitals and telecom shops accept it too. Some private places may still ask for the physical card, so keep the card valid and with you when you can.
How to set up Kuwait Mobile ID
- Download Kuwait Mobile ID from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store. Check the developer is PACI (Public Authority for Civil Information).
- Open it and start registration with your civil ID number.
- Complete the identity verification steps on screen. Depending on your phone and card, this can use your card’s chip (NFC) or other checks.
- Set a PIN you’ll remember. Don’t use your birthday.
- Your digital card appears in the app once registration is approved.
What you need before you start
- A valid civil ID card
- A smartphone with an updated operating system
- NFC turned on, if your phone supports it
- A stable internet connection
Using Kuwait Mobile ID with Sahel
Sahel logs you in through Kuwait Mobile ID. When you tap login in Sahel, you get a request in Mobile ID; approve it and enter your PIN. Both apps must be on the same phone. Once that works, you can renew your civil ID, check status and handle family members in Sahel.
Kuwait Mobile ID not working? Common fixes
- App stuck on loading: update the app and your phone software, then try on a different network.
- Registration failed: make sure your civil ID is valid and not about to be replaced. If you’ve just renewed, wait until the new card is issued.
- NFC reading fails: remove the phone cover, hold the card flat against the back of the phone, and keep still.
- New phone: you usually have to register again on the new device.
- Card renewed but app shows old card: give it a day, then log out and back in.
- Forgot PIN: use the reset option in the app, or register again.
- Sahel login requests not arriving: open Mobile ID first, make sure your card loads, then try Sahel again.
Does it replace the physical card?
For most day-to-day needs in Kuwait, the digital ID is enough. But it depends on your physical card: if your card expires or is cancelled, the app stops showing a valid ID too. If you’re waiting for a new card, track it with our civil ID status check, and if your card is lost, see what to do when your civil ID is lost.
Kuwait Mobile ID for family members
Each adult registers Mobile ID on their own phone with their own civil ID. Children don’t usually need it. If your parents or domestic worker have a smartphone, helping them set it up saves a lot of trouble when they forget their card.
Staying safe
- Never approve a login request you didn’t start.
- Don’t share your PIN, even with family.
- Lock your phone with a passcode or fingerprint.
- If your phone is lost, the app can be re-registered on your new phone, and the old one becomes useless without your PIN.
